WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army women's basketball top player
Katie Macfarlane was named Patriot League "Player of the Week" for the week
ending Dec. 9 announced today by the league office. Macfarlane also was
earned Army Athletic Association "Player of the Week" honors today after a
career performances on the hardwood.
Averaging 22.5 ppg. and 15.0 rpg. in two games last
week, the Clarence, N.Y. native improved her career scoring mark by one
point to 27 in the 65-63 overtime loss to Albany on Dec. 5. On Saturday
Macfarlane set another personal best when she dished out six assists as Army
snapped a four game losing streak with a 69-65 victory over Princeton. With
17 boards, Macfarlane was one rebound shy of her career mark in the
Princeton game.
A sophomore forward, Macfarane had 27 points and 14
boards against Albany and 18 points and 16 rebounds against Princeton to
notched her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season. The mark ties
her career high of seven double-doubles in one season set during her plebe
year.
The teams leading scorer and rebounder, Macfarlene is
averaging 17.2 ppg. and 11.8 rpg. In all games this season, Macfarlane has
led the team in rebounding and sits atop of the Patriot League standings (as
of the Dec. 10 release). In fourth place in the league in scoring,
Macfarlane has led all Black Knight scorers in five out of eight contests
this season.
Macfarlane's previous scoring high was set in the
first game of the season on Nov. 16 against Davidson at 26 points. Her
career mark in rebounding was set in the Columbia game on Nov. 20 at 17
boards. Macfarlane career best in assists was four and came against Navy on
Mar. 2, 2001.
This is the second time this season that Macfarlane
has earned league top weekly honors. Macfarlane was also named Patriot
League "Player of the Week" on Nov. 26.
The Black Knights will next play St. Francis (N.Y.)
tomorrow, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. at Chrislt Arena in West Point, N.Y. The game
will be final contest before the intercession break.
